PUBLIC INVITED TO LEARN ABOUT WATCHES AND CLOCKS
By Woodrow Wilcox
The National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (N.A.W.C.C.) is inviting the public to attend the Midwest Regional Expo at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville, Indiana on Saturday, August 11, from 9 am to 1:30 pm.
The NAWCC is a non-profit educational organization with about 23,000 members in 55 countries. The website www.nawcc.org has more information on the group.
“This is the first time that such an event has been open to the public,” said John Wagner, a member of Peacepipe Chapter 83 of the N.A.W.C.C. in Schererville which is helping to host the event. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
Activities include a free drawing for an antique clock and other prizes. Also, a free children’s program will allow children to learn about clocks and make things to keep as mementos of the event.
“I have enough stuff to keep hundreds of kids busy”, explained Marion Krajewski, the General Chairperson for the event and the President of Chicagoland Chapter 3 of the N.A.W.C.C.
According to Krajewski, millions of dollars worth of exhibits on the history and technology of watches and clocks will be on display at the event.
“Educational exhibits are coming from Boston, Chicago, Wisconsin, and Tennessee for this event,” Krajewski noted.
“Internationally known chronometry expert Tom McIntyre will be one of the speakers at the event,” Krajewski added. “It will be a very enjoyable educational event for people of all ages. We encourage families to attend with their children.”
