MEDICARE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN

On June 27, 2016, I reviewed medical bills for a client from Valparaiso, Indiana. Then, I phoned the client’s Medicare supplement insurance company to learn what it knew of the bills to our client.

After the phone call, I wrote a letter to the hospital in Illinois that had sent the bills to our client. The problem was that the Medicare system failed again. The Medicare communication system has hundreds or thousands of “gaps” per day. When the gaps happen, information about claims is lost. When the Medicare communications systems fail, the big government contractors still get millions of dollars from the federal government, but the failures and gaps can cost senior citizens millions of dollars. If no one helps the senior citizen to discover the problem and fix it, the seniors are forced to pay bills that they really don’t owe – or would not owe if the system worked well.

Here is part of the letter that I sent to help our client with these bills.

I phoned the client’s Medicare supplement insurance company to learn what it knew of these claims. We compared your bills to the Medicare EOB forms that Medicare sent to the insurance company. We discovered that the information in the Medicare EOB forms was incomplete. Your bill gave different original billing totals that were much larger than the claims listed in the Medicare EOB forms that Medicare sent to the insurance company.

This problem was not caused by our client or her insurance company. It was caused by a problem with the Medicare system. To fix this problem as quickly as possible, please send the essential information listed that you have for ANY bill with an outstanding balance directly to our client’s insurance company at the following address.

The help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. This insurance agency distinguishes itself from other insurance agencies by “going the extra mile” for our clients. Does your insurance agent or agency give this high level of service to seniors? If not, why not?

Note: Woodrow Wilcox is the senior medical bill case worker at Senior Care Insurance Services in Merrillville, Indiana. He has helped clients of that insurance agency save over one million dollars by fighting mistakes and fraud in the Medicare system. He wrote the book SOLVING MEDICARE PROBLEM$.
