WRONGLY FILED CLAIM FIXED

By Woodrow Wilcox

On June 24, 2014, I met with a couple from Crown Point to review new papers that they received from Medicare. Previously, I met with the couple and we phoned Medicare to request some duplicate copies of important documents regarding a bill that was causing problems for one of our clients – the husband.

When I reviewed papers that they brought to the office for our first meeting, I saw that there were holes in the jigsaw puzzle of the paperwork. That is why previously we phoned Medicare together to request important Medicare documents.

On June 24, the couple showed me the new documents. Immediately I knew what the problem was, but I did not know who had caused the medical bill error. We phoned Medicare again and I questioned the Medicare representative. Then, I asked her to repeat to our client what she had said to me. I wanted him to know that I had correctly guessed the cause of the medical bill problem.

The doctor’s office had misfiled the claim with Medicare. Instead of marking the claim for just an annual visit, some staff member had marked the claim as an initial visit. The client was over 80 years old and had his initial visit long ago. You only get one “Welcome to Medicare” visit in a lifetime.

We sent a letter to the doctor’s office and explained what mistake had been made and asked the doctor’s staff to correct the mistake and refile the claim with Medicare. That should solve the problem and save our client over $150.

The service that I gave our client was FREE OF CHARGE. Everyone at this insurance agency really cares about our senior citizen clients and we “go the extra mile” to protect them from financial harm caused by other people’s mistakes in the Medicare system. Does your insurance agency give this high level of service to its senior clients? If not, why not?
