On February 25, 2015, I helped a client who lives in unincorporated Calumet Township in Lake County, Indiana.
The man was a client of our insurance agency, but did not know that this agency helps clients with Medicare related medical bill problems at no charge.
He told me that when he attended an event for senior citizens, he told others that Medicare would not pay a medical bill for $833 and that his Medicare supplement policy would not pay for it.
“Go see Woody!” one of the ladies told him. “He helped my mother with a medical bill problem.”
“Yes, you need to see Mister Wilcox,” another senior lady told him.
When he visited, I went to work investigating his problem. After some time into the investigation, he told me that he had tried making phone calls to fix the problem but could not get anywhere. He was very glad that I was making progress to find the source of the problem.
It took an hour and a half of phone calls (with a lot of time on hold) to find the problem and start the process of correcting it.
The client lost his private insurance coverage from an employer on August 21, 2014. On February 25, 2015, Medicare had not yet updated his file. That means that all his medical bill claims for MORE THAN SIX MONTHS had been denied by Medicare. In our last phone call, Medicare promised to fix the problem in a few days. We will call Medicare in a few days to make sure that it updated the file. When I am sure that our client’s file is correct, we will ask his doctors to refile the claims with Medicare. That should save the client $833.
All the help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. The Medicare system is like any other humanly made system or machine. It fails sometimes. This insurance agency GOES THE EXTRA MILE to protect our clients from financial harm when that happens. Does your insurance agency give this high standard of service to its senior citizen clients? If not, why not?

He has saved clients of that insurance agency over one million dollars by correcting Medicare related medical bill errors.
