On October 21, 2016, I met in my office with a senior citizen couple from Starke County, Indiana. The wife had met with me about three weeks earlier. In that meeting, we requested that Medicare send some important documents to her husband – the patient who was being billed thousands of dollars that he never expected to be billed.

The documents from Medicare helped me zero in on the problem. After reviewing all the documents again, the patient and I phoned the hospital and he gave permission for me to speak and question on his behalf.

The hospital representative reported that the hospital never got the claims information from Medicare that the patient and the insurance company got. In my experience, this is much more rare than other breakdowns of the Medicare system, but it has happened in the past.

The hospital asked us to send copies of the information from Medicare. When that is done, the hospital will cancel $9,603 of charges to our client.

All the help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. This insurance agency distinguishes itself by helping our clients with such breakdowns of the Medicare system. Does your insurance agent or agency give this high level of service to senior citizen clients? If not, why not?
